First Couple Leads Rice Aid Drive for Farmers, Vulnerable Groups in Roxas City

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos led the distribution of rice assistance to farmers and vulnerable residents in Roxas City, Capiz, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of rising food and fuel costs.

A total of 500 beneficiaries received 10-kilogram sacks of rice during the activity. Of these, 300 were farmers from the villages of Bolo, Bato, Bago, and Milibili, while 200 were from vulnerable sectors, including persons with disabilities and solo parents, mostly from Barangay Milibili.

The initiative forms part of a broader rice assistance program launched in Manila last week, funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF). The program is scheduled to be implemented six times a year to provide sustained support to communities affected by economic pressures.

Officials said the distribution aims to assist both agricultural workers and at-risk households, ensuring access to essential food supplies amid fluctuating prices.

During a similar activity in Batangas City last Friday, President Marcos signaled plans to increase funding for the LGSF, noting that any expansion would depend on the efficient use and proper management of resources by local government units.

The rice aid drive is among several measures being rolled out by the administration to address cost-of-living concerns, particularly in provinces where farmers and low-income families remain most vulnerable to economic shifts.
