Commuters on the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) now have a cooler waiting option after the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) opened an air-conditioned passenger lounge at Baclaran Station (northbound), offering relief from the summer heat.
The facility aims to improve passenger comfort, especially during the dry season when temperatures peak and stations become more crowded.
“Our goal is to find ways to make the daily journey better for our passengers. This air-conditioned space is a simple but meaningful way to provide comfort during the hot months,” said LRMC President and Chief Executive Officer Enrico Benipayo.
“We remain committed to improving our station facilities and ensuring passengers feel valued while traveling with LRT-1,” he added.
The project was developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – Mahajak Air Conditioners Co. Ltd. (MACO), which installed high-efficiency cooling systems in the lounge.
LRMC said the initiative aims to provide immediate relief at one of the busiest stations on the LRT-1 line, where passenger volume remains high throughout the day.
The air-conditioned waiting area is open to all passengers, with priority access for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities to ensure inclusivity.
To accommodate more commuters, LRMC encouraged passengers to use the lounge while waiting and proceed to the boarding area once their train arrives, helping keep the space accessible to others.
The Baclaran Station lounge is part of LRMC’s ongoing efforts to upgrade facilities and improve the daily commuting experience through practical comfort-focused enhancements.
