A rider died while waiting in line for P5,000 in fuel subsidy at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on April 18, authorities said.
Department of Social Welfare and Development spokesperson Irene Dumlao said DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has ordered immediate coordination with the victim’s family to provide assistance.
Dumlao said the agency has already reached out to the rider’s relatives, including his child, and assured them of support.
The DSWD also extended its condolences to the bereaved family.
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim, while details surrounding the incident are still being verified in coordination with concerned agencies.
The fuel subsidy distribution drew large crowds at the venue, with applicants reportedly lining up for hours under hot weather conditions.
Some riders also shared online accounts of long waiting times and exposure to intense heat during the payout.
Authorities said they are continuing to gather information to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
