Estelle Fly embraces carefree fun and self-expression in club-pop track ‘Shut It Down’

The text can wait. Singaporean pop artist Estelle Fly wants listeners to put down their phones and claim a little space on the dance floor with her new single, “Shut It Down.”

Drawing inspiration from the Rihanna and Kesha songs she used to get ready and go out to, the club-pop track taps into a familiar night-out scenario: friends persuading you to stop overthinking, get dressed and enjoy yourself.

“Your problems will still be there tomorrow, but you deserve to enjoy yourself tonight,” Estelle says.

For the singer, the release brings together two things she has always enjoyed: singing and dancing. It also gives her room to loosen up creatively.

“I’ve always loved singing and dancing, so making a song like this feels very natural to me,” says Estelle. “I love the club songs from Rihanna and Kesha that we used to get ready and go out to, and I still listen to them now. I wanted to make something that gives me that same excitement and let myself have a bit more fun with my music.”

That excitement shapes a chorus designed for listeners to join in, delivered with an attitude she describes as playful and a little bratty. The idea is to capture the moment when self-consciousness gives way to confidence.

“I wanted that feeling where you might be quite shy normally, but once this song comes on, suddenly the world disappears and the dance floor is yours,” she says.

Asked how she hopes listeners will feel afterward, Estelle keeps her answer cheeky: “Honestly, a little hotter than they did three minutes ago.”

Beneath the swagger is a straightforward message about giving yourself permission to enjoy life without having everything figured out.

“We spend so much time trying to have everything together. Sometimes you need to sing too loudly, dance with your friends and remember that you’re allowed to have fun even when life is complicated.”

“Shut It Down” follows her July single “Bury it,” continuing a music career that has taken her from performing as an idol to establishing herself as an independent soloist.

Estelle, whose work also spans dance and acting, previously released the EP ZONE and performed at Waterbomb Singapore in 2025. She was selected as a Spotify RADAR artist in 2026.

“Shut It Down” is now available to stream.
