Palace cites Middle East crisis, El Niño, political noise as PhP fall to P63.02 vs $1 dollar

Malacañang on Thursday pointed to the persistent Middle East conflict, the onset of Super El Niño, and domestic political friction accompanied by misinformation as primary factors driving the foreign exchange rate to P63.02 against the U.S. dollar.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said the Marcos administration is actively monitoring currency fluctuations to formulate targeted interventions and cushion the local economy.

The Philippine peso closed at P63.02 to the dollar on Thursday.

Castro further stated that internal political noise and false information online complicate economic stabilization efforts.

“Definitely nakakaapekto ito sa magandang imahe ng gobyerno para mas makapaghikayat pa ng mga investors,” Castro also said.
