The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is airlifting 29 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Cambodia, bringing home 23 suspected victims of human trafficking alongside six other distressed workers.
The DMW announced Friday night that the group is scheduled to land in Manila on Saturday, October 10.
The repatriation operation is being led by the Philippine Embassy in Cambodia and the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Phnom Penh, with full logistical support provided through the government’s AKSYON Fund. The emergency fund covers legal fees, medical assistance, financial support and immediate reintegration services for OFWs facing crises abroad.
The arrival comes weeks after the Philippines joined Cambodia and regional partners in adopting the landmark Phnom Penh Declaration in September. The international accord establishes an 11-point joint strategy to dismantle cross-border online scam hubs, smash human trafficking syndicates, recover criminal proceeds, and rescue victimized foreign nationals across Southeast Asia.
