A senior Philippine Air Force (PAF) flag officer has taken command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Visayas Command (Viscom), assuming responsibility for overseeing all joint military and security operations across the central region.
Maj. Gen. Moises Micor officially assumed post as Viscom commander on Monday during a formal change of command ceremony presided over by Armed Forces chief Gen. Antonio Nafarrete at Camp Lapu-Lapu in Cebu City.
Micor, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1993, previously served as commander of the PAF’s Air Mobility Command before his appointment to lead the unified operational command.
His previous leadership posts within the air component include serving as commander of the Tactical Operations Wing Central and leading the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing.
Micor succeeded Maj. Gen. Peter Burgonio, who had served as acting Viscom commander since August 12 while concurrently holding command of the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division following the retirement of Lt. Gen. Fernando Reyeg.
During the turnover rites, Nafarrete expressed appreciation to Burgonio for his stewardship and operational leadership during the interim transition period.
He commended Burgonio ”for his leadership and continued commitment to the AFP’s mission in the region.”
Military officials stated that Micor brings extensive strategic and operational command experience to Viscom as the command continues to safeguard peace and territorial security across the Visayan islands.
In his address to the unified forces, Nafarrete emphasized the necessity of operational flexibility and joint service readiness across all security units.
He urged personnel to maintain high operational standards to respond effectively to any emerging security or humanitarian challenge.
”Viscom must remain ready for the other missions that may be required of it. Continue to work as one Visayas Command,” Nafarrete said.
