A Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander and a local barangay chairman have reached a formal ceasefire agreement following recent armed clashes in Kalanganan, Cotabato City.
Local authorities and community leaders intervened to broker the pact after violent confrontations caused significant security concerns and threatened the safety of nearby residents.
Under the terms of the agreement, both factions committed to an immediate cessation of hostile actions, the withdrawal of armed personnel from active contact zones, and the establishment of peaceful dialogue channels to resolve underlying disputes.
Peacebuilding representatives praised the joint initiative, emphasizing that rapid mediation is vital for stabilizing affected areas and protecting civilian welfare.
They also said local leadership remains committed to working alongside regional security mechanisms to prevent future outbreaks of violence and sustain long-term stability across the Bangsamoro region.
