The Bureau of Internal Revenue National OfficeClick to open side panel for more information released over P23.67 billion in tax refunds from January to September 2026, nearly doubling the amount returned to taxpayers during the same period last year.
Data from the state tax collector showed that total tax refunds disbursed in the first nine months of 2026 reached P23.67 billion, marking an 90.5-percent increase from the P12.42 billion released during the corresponding period in 2025.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza explained that the agency implemented measures to expedite claims processing, ensuring that individual taxpayers and commercial entities receive their approved funds promptly.
Mendoza noted that timely tax refund releases help bolster corporate liquidity and support ongoing operational requirements, particularly as businesses navigate economic pressures stemming from the current energy crisis.
“Tax administration is not only about collecting what is properly due to government. We must also return what is properly due to the taxpayer once the claim has been evaluated and approved,” Mendoza stated.
The BIR noted that the accelerated payout timeline aligns with ongoing administrative reforms aimed at streamlining processing steps, eliminating red tape, and preventing unnecessary delays for approved refund claims.
