A multimillion-peso dispute involving a business shared by Kim Chiu and her older sister Lakambini “Lakam” Chiu has entered a new stage following Lakam’s arrest in Mandaluyong City.
Lakam was arrested on Sunday, September 20, in connection with 124 counts of qualified theft involving approximately P44.4 million in corporate funds.
The charges stem from transactions involving House of Little Bunny Philippines Inc. (HOLB), the business at the center of a legal dispute between the sisters.
According to reports citing the Quezon City prosecutor’s resolution, prosecutors found sufficient basis to pursue 124 counts of qualified theft involving a total of P44,396,331.65.
Each count corresponds to a questioned withdrawal or online transfer from the company’s corporate bank accounts.
Lakam has denied the allegations.
In her defense cited in reports on the prosecutor’s resolution, she disputed the characterization of the transactions as unauthorized and maintained that she and Kim had an arrangement involving the accounts and funds used for other business ventures.
The dispute became public in December 2025 when Kim confirmed that she had filed a qualified theft complaint against her sister following what she described as “serious financial discrepancies” discovered in her business operations.
Kim said at the time that pursuing legal action against a family member was a difficult decision, but maintained that she needed to protect her business and the people connected to it.
The complaint later underwent review by the Quezon City prosecutor’s office, which determined there was sufficient basis for charges to proceed against Lakam.
The latest development came Sunday afternoon when Quezon City Police District personnel arrested Lakam at around 4:06 p.m. in Barangay Wack Wack, Mandaluyong City.
The arrest was made on the strength of a warrant issued by a Quezon City Regional Trial Court. Bail for the 124 counts was set at ₱5.838 million.
Police subsequently brought Lakam into custody for documentation and further legal proceedings.
