Lacson: Romualdez Arrest Should Silence Marcos Critics

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday said critics of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should be silenced by the administration’s actions following the arrest of former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Lacson made the statement after law enforcement authorities served a non-bailable plunder warrant against the former lawmaker, who is also the President’s first cousin.

“With the arrest of his cousin, former Speaker Romualdez, the President’s critics who accused him of weak leadership and a lack of resolve in confronting the floor-control mess should now be silenced by his actions,” Lacson said in an official statement.

The senator commended the Office of the Ombudsman for its role in investigating the case and filing charges, adding that the anti-graft agency deserves full public support.

Addressing the legal process ahead, Lacson emphasized that the former House leader will now have the opportunity to defend himself through formal court proceedings.

“Let the trial proceed and let the evidence speak. Most importantly, the former speaker is now given his day in court,” Lacson added.
