Responders have retrieved the bodies of two missing minors following the capsizing of a motorized banca in Mapanuepe Lake, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed on Saturday, August 29.
PCG Spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab reported that local residents and search and rescue (SAR) teams recovered the two young victims near the site of the August 27 maritime incident.
Residents of Barangay Buhawen first located the body of the young female passenger at approximately 10:10 a.m., roughly 50 meters west of where the boat overturned. Less than an hour later, at around 11:05 a.m., SAR personnel recovered the body of the male minor approximately 30 meters southeast of the incident site.
Both children were positively identified by their respective fathers following their recovery.
Commodore Cayabyab confirmed that joint search and rescue operations remain active as teams continue to look for the one remaining missing passenger.
