Six out of 10 Filipinos continue to trust and express satisfaction with the performance of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to the second quarter Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey released by OCTA Research.

The nationwide poll, conducted from July 4 to 11 with 1,200 adult respondents, revealed that 65 percent of Filipinos trust the national police force, a slight increase from the 63 percent recorded in the first quarter of the year. Meanwhile, distrust in the PNP dropped from 17 percent to 13 percent, while 23 percent of respondents remained undecided. The shift boosted the PNP’s net trust rating (percent trust minus percent distrust) by six points, rising from +46 in March to +52 in July.

Regional data showed that trust in the police force was highest in the Visayas at 70 percent, followed closely by the rest of Luzon (69 percent), Mindanao (67 percent), and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 40 percent. Conversely, NCR registered the highest distrust rating at 18 percent, followed by the Visayas at 14 percent and Luzon and Mindanao at 11 percent each.

Across socioeconomic classes, trust peaked among Class E respondents at 72 percent, followed by Class ABC (71 percent) and Class D (62 percent). Distrust was most pronounced among Class ABC at 16 percent, compared to 13 percent in Class D and 6 percent in Class E.

The PNP also secured strong marks regarding public satisfaction, with 63 percent of respondents expressing approval of the police force’s performance, up from 61 percent in the previous quarter. Dissatisfaction fell from 20 percent to 17 percent, while 21 percent remained undecided, yielding a net performance rating of +46, up five points from +41 in March.

Satisfaction levels were highest in the Visayas and Mindanao, both recording 67 percent approval, followed by Luzon at 65 percent and NCR at 43 percent. On the other hand, NCR recorded the highest dissatisfaction rate at 38 percent, followed by Mindanao (16 percent), the Visayas (14 percent) and Luzon (12 percent).

The survey carried a margin of error of ±3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
