Chinese Tourist Arrested for Assaulting Mall Guard in Pasay

A 21-year-old Chinese national was arrested on August 20, 2026, after allegedly assaulting a security guard at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex.

Personnel from Sub-Station 10 of the Pasay City Police Station took the suspect, identified only as “Wen,” into custody following the incident near the 4th-floor MOA Sky football field.

Based on initial investigations, the victim, a 49-year-old security guard, was assisting a colleague in escorting the suspect to the Customer Relations Services office for identity verification regarding a prior theft report. Upon being approached, the suspect allegedly struck the guard in the face, causing a nasal fracture, and deliberately stepped on his prescription eyeglasses before attempting to flee.

Other mall security personnel pursued and restrained the suspect before turning him over to responding police officers. Authorities noted that the suspect was unable to present identification documents and holds no permanent address in the Philippines.

The suspect was brought to the local police station for medical examination and documentation before being referred to the Investigation and Detective Management Section. Formal complaints for Physical Injuries and Malicious Mischief are being prepared for inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. emphasized that local laws apply to all individuals within the country’s jurisdiction.

“Every person in the Philippines is expected to respect our laws and answer for violations, regardless of nationality. Our police officers will act decisively when public safety and security are put at risk,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Walang sinuman ang may karapatang manakit ng kapwa o manira ng ari-arian. Kapag may paglabag sa batas, haharap sa tamang proseso,” he added.
