CICC Pushes Tougher Online Safeguards to Protect Children From Digital Threats

The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is pressing for stronger, unified measures to safeguard Filipino youth against a wave of internet-driven threats, warning that tech companies failing to protect minors could face operational suspensions in the country.

CICC Executive Director Aboy Paraiso called on social media networks, messaging apps, streaming providers, and online gaming hubs to take immediate, active responsibility for their young users. He stressed that clear and coordinated policy enforcement is required to counter online grooming, radicalization and child exploitation across all digital services.

According to Paraiso, platforms must implement robust, preventative safeguards to stop children from coming into contact with abusive users and harmful content.

The anti-cybercrime authority emphasized that tech companies repeatedly or deliberately neglecting child safety standards could face severe regulatory consequences. Under existing laws, the government reserves the right to restrict or completely suspend access to non-compliant digital platforms within the Philippines.

The CICC highlighted that as children spend increasingly more time on digital platforms, prompt action on reports involving abuse is no longer optional, it is critical.

While warning tech giants of stricter enforcement, the agency maintained that ensuring a secure online ecosystem requires broad cooperation. The CICC urged government bodies, tech entities, parents and community stakeholders to work together closely to neutralize emerging digital risks and build a safer digital environment for Filipino children.
