Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Nicolas Torre III has urged lawmakers to revisit the Clean Air Act to address persistent waste management issues across the national capital region.
Speaking at the Saturday News Forum, Torre highlighted that improper waste disposal practices, particularly open garbage burning, continue to threaten local air quality. He stated that the government must re-evaluate the existing law to ensure it aligns with modern technological advancements and the evolving needs of the public.
Torre emphasized that resolving the country’s waste crisis requires a joint effort between the state and the public, stressing that government initiatives to build effective disposal systems must be matched by strict public compliance with environmental regulations.
