PCG Intensifies Response As “HABAGAT” Brings Heavy Rains

  • August 22, 2026

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has intensified its response operations in areas under the Coast Guard District National Capital Region – Central Luzon, Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog, and Coast Guard District Southwestern Mindanao amid heavy rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon, or “Habagat,” from August 19 to 21, 2026.

Frontline personnel deployed across affected maritime districts have assisted in the evacuation of 10,370 individuals. To assist stranded commuters, Coast Guard personnel transported affected residents to safer areas through its “Libreng Sakay” program. Teams have also delivered and distributed relief food packs to communities affected by flooding.

In coordination with local government units and partner national agencies, the PCG also deployed response teams to flood-prone areas to provide immediate assistance and ensure the safety of affected communities.
