The Philippine National Police (PNP) has directed commanders to coordinate with local government units and schools to assist students stranded during sudden, bad-weather class suspensions. PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. issued the directive following reports of affected students, particularly in urban and flood-prone areas.
The initiative aligns with directives from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to support communities during weather disruptions.
“This is a task that requires coordination to come up with the best systematic measure to ensure the safety and welfare of our learners, especially those in the grade school and junior high school levels,” Nartatez said.
Police units were ordered to boost their presence in school zones, transport hubs, major roads and flood-prone locations to help steer students away from hazards and coordinate with emergency responders.
“We are directing our personnel to coordinate with local authorities and schools, monitor areas prone to flooding and provide immediate assistance when needed,” he said.
Nartatez stressed that officers must stay visible and ready to respond even after official class suspensions are announced.
“We remind our police officers to remain visible and responsive during weather-related disruptions. The safety of our students and the public remains our priority,” he added.
