Three Decades Later, TEETH Proves Great Albums Never Die as Debut Vinyl Sells

More than three decades after its release, TEETH’s self-titled debut album has found a new audience on vinyl—and disappeared from shelves in less than a day.

Backspacer Records confirmed that the limited-edition pressing sold out shortly after its release, reflecting the lasting appeal of the 1995 album and the continued demand for physical editions of landmark OPM records.

The release marks the album’s first appearance on vinyl. It was newly remastered by award-winning mastering engineer Shinji Tanaka and packaged as a collector’s edition featuring reimagined artwork, archival materials and handwritten lyrics.

The gatefold release includes front and back cover art hand-painted by Nix Puno, never-before-seen photographs, rare articles, lyrics from drummer Mike Dizon’s personal vault and liner notes by Diego Castillo.

Certified Double Platinum by the Philippine Association of the Record Industry after selling more than 80,000 copies, the album remains closely associated with the rise of Filipino alternative rock in the 1990s. Its grunge-driven sound and relatable songwriting helped TEETH build a following that continues to span generations.

Guitarist Jerome Velasco said the vinyl edition was intended to recreate the energy of the band’s early years for longtime listeners while introducing the album’s raw sound to younger fans.

“For our longtime fans, we hope the moment the needle drops feel like a total time machine. And for the new generation hearing these tracks on analog for the first time, we hope they feel all the raw heart, sweat, and unfiltered energy of the ’90s,” Velasco said.

Backspacer Records founder Robert Tuazon said the rapid sellout demonstrated both the album’s cultural impact and the enduring relevance of physical media.

“Aside from being fans ourselves of so many OPM artists like Teeth, we have always looked forward to expanding the range of titles we produce and have on our shelves,” Tuazon said.

“While we did expect a strong response from the fans for this iconic album, the demand speaks to both the generational impact of this album, and the recognition of physical media as touchstones to the culture then and now,” he added.

Dizon said the band was overwhelmed by the response, particularly after spending years away from the spotlight. He also confirmed that talks were underway for a possible additional pressing.

“Selling out in nearly a day after the announcement is an important accomplishment for the group. Reordering is easy, but the tricky part is getting the go signal from the mother label, Warner, to allow us to reprint a small batch more,” Dizon said.

“The great news is we’re already working on it, and we hope to have new stocks available in time for our reunion shows,” he added.

The release coincides with Year 33: TEETH The Reunion – Legacy Tour, a five-city celebration with stops in Singapore, Manila, Cebu, Davao and Tagum.

The Manila show will feature a full-length performance celebrating the band’s more than three decades of music, friendship and influence on Philippine rock.
