The Philippine National Police (PNP) apprehended 98 individuals during a series of operations against illegal fishing in Western Visayas from July 1 to 10, 2026.
Police Regional Office 6 conducted 58 anti-illegal fishing operations across the region, leading to the recovery of fish, fishing equipment and other related paraphernalia with an estimated total value of P10.16 million.
The suspects were apprehended for alleged violations of fisheries laws.
The operations were carried out in coordination with concerned government agencies and local stakeholders as part of efforts to promote responsible fishing practices, protect marine resources and safeguard the livelihood of law-abiding fisherfolk in coastal communities.
Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP Chief, said the police organization remains committed to supporting government efforts to protect the country’s natural resources while maintaining peace and order.
He added that the PNP would continue strengthening its enforcement operations while ensuring that all police actions are conducted within the bounds of the law and with respect for individual rights.
The intensified campaign also supports President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to promote sustainable resource management and protect communities that depend on the country’s natural resources.
The PNP said it would continue to sustain its operations and strengthen partnerships with communities.
