The Department of Social Welfare and Development has released more than P45.88 million in humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Inday.

As of Monday, the DSWD had distributed 54,902 family food packs, 6,094 ready-to-eat food packs and 1,732 non-food items.

The weather disturbance affected 150,903 families, or 669,264 people, in 927 barangays across 12 regions and triggered flooding and landslides in several areas.

At least 17,794 people from 4,338 families were staying in 134 evacuation centers, while 42,955 others from 9,634 families had sought shelter with relatives or friends.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said the agency was coordinating with local governments to assess additional needs and determine what other assistance should be provided.

She added that the department was also working with local officials to reach bereaved families and extend financial aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.
