CIDG Ready to Bring Marcoleta to Sandiganbayan Once Medically Cleared

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said Friday it is prepared to bring Sen. Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan once he receives official medical clearance.

CIDG-National Capital Region chief Col. John Guiagui stated an official of the PNP General Hospital told the anti-graft court that Marcoleta could be fit to appear in court by July 15 physically.

During a hearing earlier Friday, PNPGH Internal Medicine Department chief Lt. Col. Belany Bayani said Marcoleta could be ready for transport to the Sandiganbayan by July 15.

Marcoleta, former Quezon City Rep. Michael Defensor, and businessmen Joseph Espiritu and Aristotle Viray were arrested Monday in connection with a ₱75-million plunder case.

Defensor, Espiritu, and Viray were committed to the Quezon City Jail, while Marcoleta was brought to the PNPGH after complaining of chest pain following his arrest.

Marcoleta was later diagnosed with elevated blood pressure, high cholesterol, and mild pneumonia.

“July 15, that’s what she said there,” Guiagui said, referring to Bayani’s testimony on when Marcoleta could be transported to the Sandiganbayan.

Guiagui said the CIDG, which is securing Marcoleta at the PNPGH, is ready to present the senator before the anti-graft court once doctors declare him fit to travel.

He said the PNPGH would determine when Marcoleta is medically fit to be transported out of Camp Crame.

“If they say he is ready to be committed, then the CIDG will do its role, bring him to Sandiganbayan and receive his commitment order,” Guiagui said.

“Will he be transferred to Payatas (Quezon City Jail) or any other jail facility? Again, it is up to the PNPGH to give the clearance to us to do our role…Again, the CIDG is ready (to transport him) once we receive a clearance coming from the doctors,” he added.
