Authorities arrested five people and seized more than P542,000 worth of alleged counterfeit seasoning products during an operation in Mandaue City, Cebu.

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said the operation was conducted at around 7:30 pm on July 4, 2026, in Barangay Subangdako.

The operation was carried out by the CIDG Mandaue City Field Unit and local police units, including representatives of Nestlé Philippines, Inc..

Authorities said the operation was conducted for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.

The CIDG said the arrested suspects, composed of three men and two women, were allegedly caught trading and selling trademark-infringing or counterfeit “Magic Sarap” seasoning products.

Seized during the operation were 113 boxes of alleged counterfeit seasoning products with an estimated value of P542,400. Authorities also confiscated a Mitsubishi L300 van reportedly used to transport the items.

CIDG Director Police Major General Robert AA Morico II said the operation reflects the government’s duty to protect consumers from unfair trade practices, including the sale of counterfeit goods.

The CIDG also urged the public to report counterfeit products and other illegal activities in their communities to protect both trademark owners and consumers from fake goods.
