Anti-Cybercrime Drive Nets 30 Arrests, 2 Convictions in One Week

Police arrested 30 people, filed 44 criminal cases, and secured two convictions in a week-long campaign against cyber-enabled offenses, the Philippine National Police said.

The PNP said its Anti-Cybercrime Group carried out the operations from June 26 to July 2.

Of the 30 arrested individuals, 20 were apprehended through warrants of arrest, while 10 were caught in entrapment operations.

The cases involved cyber libel, online estafa, violations of the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act, and other cyber-related offenses.

The PNP said the operations were conducted through case build-up, cyber patrolling, digital forensic examination, intelligence monitoring, and coordination with complainants, prosecutors, and partner law enforcement agencies.

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said cybercrime continues to evolve and requires a sustained police response.

“Cybercrime continues to evolve, and so must our response. These accomplishments reflect the dedication of our personnel to protect the public and ensure that those who misuse technology are held accountable through the proper legal process. Tuloy-tuloy lang tayo—ang mahalaga ay ligtas ang ating mga kababayan, online man o offline,” Nartatez said.

Nartatez also urged the public to remain vigilant in online transactions and immediately report suspicious activities to authorities.

The PNP said the Anti-Cybercrime Group would continue strengthening its operations and partnerships to address emerging cyber threats.
