The Manila city government is bolstering municipal preparations to mitigate the potential impact of Super El Niño, including severe heat, drought conditions, and potential supply pressures on basic commodities.
Under the leadership of Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, the 13th Manila City Council approved Resolution No. 10196, instructing municipal departments to scale up information campaigns and disaster readiness protocols across every barangay.
City Council Majority Floor Leader Raymundo “Mon” Yupangco highlighted the necessity of early intervention and proactive planning against extreme temperatures and associated climate hazards.
Members of the council warned that the prolonged dry spell could trigger localized water and food supply constraints, elevated retail prices, and higher household electricity usage.
Atienza said data provided by the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office showed that climate conditions linked to El Niño could emerge in November, with peak severity anticipated by February.
The city council called on Manila residents to practice water conservation and actively support municipal readiness
