Army Engineers Build 73 Temporary Shelters For Glan Quake Victims

Joint Task Force Agila has started building temporary shelters for families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Glan, Sarangani Province, as part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ continuing humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts.

The construction began on July 1, 2026, under the “Bangon Glan: A Partnership to Rehabilitate the Damaged Shelters of the Victims of the 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake” initiative in Poblacion, Glan.

A total of 11 construction teams composed of personnel from the 512th Engineer Construction Battalion, 504th Combat Engineer Battalion, and Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit Active Auxiliaries under the 73rd Infantry Battalion were deployed for the project.

The teams are simultaneously building temporary shelters for affected families and are now conducting excavation, reinforcement bar fabrication, formwork, and concrete works as part of the initial phase.

The rehabilitation initiative aims to build 73 one-storey, two-door temporary shelters for families whose homes were damaged by the earthquake.

Each unit will have an estimated floor area of 23.04 square meters and will be built with timber posts on concrete pedestals, marine plywood exterior walls, and corrugated galvanized iron roofing.

Each shelter is expected to be completed within eight working days, while the entire project is targeted for completion in approximately 53 working days.

Major General Alvin Luzon, commander of the 10th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Agila, said military support is vital in accelerating the rehabilitation of affected communities through whole-of-government collaboration.

“The construction of these temporary shelters demonstrates our commitment to helping earthquake-affected families recover and rebuild their lives. While this is a collaborative undertaking among government agencies, local government units, and partner stakeholders, JTF Agila remains steadfast in providing the manpower and engineering capability needed to hasten the rehabilitation process. Together, we are transforming solidarity into concrete action for the benefit of our fellow Filipinos,” Luzon said.

JTF Agila said its participation in the Bangon Glan project reflects the AFP’s commitment to supporting government-led disaster response and rehabilitation initiatives while remaining ready to fulfill its mission of safeguarding the people and securing the nation.
