The National Bureau of Investigation has condemned fake social media posts falsely claiming that NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag made negative remarks against the Iglesia ni Cristo and its members.
In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the NBI described the posts as a dangerous lie meant to stir public unrest and sow division.
“The Bureau clarifies that the NBI Director never made any such statements. Throughout his career, the Director has maintained the utmost respect for the Iglesia Ni Cristo community and has consistently upheld the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and interfaith harmony. This disinformation campaign is a transparent and malicious attempt to sow division among our citizens and undermine government stability,” the NBI said.
The agency said it has begun tracing the source of the false information and is investigating the alleged organized digital network behind the posts.
The NBI also warned the public against irresponsible social media use and urged Filipinos to verify information before sharing posts on their personal accounts.
