A tropical storm being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility may intensify into a super typhoon before entering the country’s monitoring area next week, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
In its 5 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the weather disturbance is expected to enter PAR by Wednesday or Thursday next week. Once inside the monitoring area, it will be given the local name Inday.
PAGASA weather specialist Leanne Loreto said the storm is forecast to continue gaining strength and could reach super typhoon category as it approaches the country.
Loreto, however, stressed that there remains uncertainty over the storm’s exact track and intensity.
PAGASA also warned that the weather system may enhance the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which could bring more rains over several parts of the Philippines.
