The Bureau of Immigration arrested a 34-year-old American national in Naga City for allegedly overstaying in the Philippines.
The BI identified the foreign national as Chayim Elchanan Werner, who was arrested on June 17 in Barangay Concepcion Pequeña, Naga City.
The bureau said the arrest was carried out based on intelligence information from the local government.
Verification of Werner’s immigration records showed that he had allegedly remained in the country beyond the period allowed under his tourist visa.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said foreign nationals staying in the Philippines are expected to follow the country’s immigration laws and the conditions of their stay.
“The privilege of staying in the Philippines carries the obligation to respect and comply with our immigration laws,” Viado said.
“We will continue to identify, arrest, and deport foreign nationals who violate the conditions of their stay and disregard our regulations,” he added.
Werner remains under BI custody pending processing and appropriate immigration proceedings.
