Escalante National High School in Negros Occidental suspended face-to-face classes on Monday, June 29, following reports of an alleged shooting threat against the campus.
The suspension was announced by the school’s official publication, The Light Bearer, which said the decision was reached after an emergency meeting with the Division Office, the Philippine National Police, and school administrators.
“After an emergency meeting and consultation with the Division Office, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and school administration, this decision has been made to ensure the safety and well-being of all learners and personnel,” the publication said.
The reported threat circulated online after a Facebook user posted screenshots of a supposed Messenger conversation involving a student who allegedly hinted at bringing a weapon to the school.
The message also reportedly made reference to the recent school shooting in Tacloban.
The Facebook account that posted the screenshots has since been deactivated.
School officials said the suspension of onsite classes was a precautionary measure while authorities assess the situation and verify the reported threat.
Further details on the investigation have yet to be released.
