Lacson: Claims Linking VP Impeachment to Flood Probe Are Politically Driven

Senator Panfilo “Ping” M. Lacson on Friday dismissed attempts to connect the upcoming impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio with the Senate’s ongoing investigation into anomalous flood control projects, attributing such narratives to early campaign maneuvers ahead of the 2028 elections.

Laughing off the insinuations, Lacson said he and the Senate majority bloc have chosen not to respond, emphasizing that the impeachment proceedings will not derail the flood control probe.

“Let them campaign. This narrative is unsurprising, especially as some colleagues are already in early 2028 campaign mode with their Facebook Lives, social media posts, and media interviews,” Lacson said in an interview with IBC News.

He added, “We understand their statements are politically motivated. Our position in the majority is not to dignify these claims with a response.”

The comment comes after former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano noted that the Vice President’s impeachment trial should not interfere with the Senate’s examination of flood control anomalies.

The Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, now chaired by Erwin Tulfo, continues to investigate the flood control projects, building on the groundwork laid during Lacson’s previous leadership of the probe.
