Following the 2026 Filipino Diaspora Summit, the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) and the Apl.de.Ap Foundation International (APLFI) are moving forward with initiatives aimed at creating green jobs and strengthening sustainable livelihood opportunities for Filipinos.
During a recent meeting, APLFI presented its sustainability roadmap focused on developing specialized training programs to equip the local workforce with skills for the growing electric vehicle (EV) industry.
The initiative seeks to address the country’s need for more skilled technicians capable of supporting EV manufacturing, maintenance, and clean transport infrastructure, while preparing Filipinos for emerging opportunities in the global green economy.
The program supports the CFO’s mandate of harnessing the expertise, technology, and resources of overseas Filipinos to contribute to national development. By promoting workforce development, the initiative aims to create more high-value employment opportunities in the Philippines and reduce the need for overseas migration.
APLFI representatives Genevieve Jopanda and Audie Vergara also discussed complementary trade initiatives, including efforts to connect Filipino-American coffee companies in California with local coffee farmers in the Philippines to help expand market access and improve farmers’ incomes.
CFO Chairperson Secretary Dante “Klink” Ang II expressed the agency’s full support for the initiatives and committed to facilitating coordination with relevant government agencies. He also proposed featuring the programs on the “Serbisyong CFO sa Bagong Pilipinas” radio program and announced plans for a follow-up meeting during the upcoming National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NAFFAA) Conference in Colorado to further strengthen collaboration.
