DILG: Unified 911 Boosts Emergency Response, Helps Save Lives

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said the country’s Unified 911 Emergency Hotline is significantly improving emergency response times and helping save lives in accidents and other urgent situations across the Philippines.

Aligned with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the system has been positioned as a key pillar of the government’s public safety and disaster response strategy, enabling faster coordination among frontline agencies.

Since its full rollout in 2025, Unified 911 has recorded an efficiency rate of 97.23 percent, with authorities citing improved call processing, quicker dispatch of responders, and better coordination between emergency units.

The system links local government units, the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), emergency medical services, and hospitals to ensure immediate deployment of assistance during emergencies.

In Butuan City, responders were dispatched after a 911 call reporting a bus and jeepney collision, resulting in six injured individuals being transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

In a separate incident in San Juan, La Union, the system enabled a three-minute response time after a road accident, where five injured persons were given first aid before being brought to a district hospital.

Officials emphasized that rapid emergency response can be critical in preventing fatalities and reducing the severity of injuries, particularly in road-related incidents.

The DILG urged the public to use the hotline responsibly, stressing that timely and accurate reporting remains essential in ensuring that emergency teams can respond without delay.
