PH, Australian Armies Conduct Coastal Defense Drill in Exercise Kasangga

Philippine Army and Australian Army troops successfully repelled a notional enemy attack during a coastal defense drill under Exercise Kasangga held at Sitio Mainit, Barangay Balogo, Pasacao, Camarines Sur on June 16.

The scenario tested coordination, readiness, and operational effectiveness across land, air, and maritime domains as both forces executed integrated defensive operations.

The Australian Army said its participation aims to share expertise and operational experience in territorial defense while supporting the Philippine Army’s transition toward strengthening external security capabilities.

Prior to the drill, the 9th Infantry Division coordinated with the Pasacao local government to ensure public safety. Residents near the exercise area were temporarily relocated, while fishing activities within the designated zone were suspended.

The exercise also highlighted interagency coordination, with local authorities supporting evacuation and safety management for communities affected by the simulated scenario.

Kasangga, which means “ally” or “partner,” involved multiple training scenarios designed to test tactics, techniques, and procedures while enhancing interoperability between the two armies.

The month-long exercise is scheduled to conclude on June 19.
