A .38 caliber revolver was voluntarily surrendered to authorities in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City on June 16, 2026, following intensified anti-loose firearm operations of the Philippine National Police–Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).
The firearm, which was earlier discovered inside a public utility vehicle in May 2026, was turned over through the City Highway Patrol Team–Bacolod under the Regional Highway Patrol Unit–Negros Island Region after coordination with local officials and residents.
Authorities said the surrender was made to avoid possible legal complications, as ownership of the firearm could not be established.
The weapon was properly documented and placed under police custody for appropriate disposition, with barangay officials witnessing the turnover.
PNP-HPG Director PBGen. Rommel S. Batangan said the incident reflects growing community cooperation in efforts against loose firearms.
He urged continued public participation in reporting and surrendering unlicensed weapons, saying these efforts are critical in preventing crimes and improving local security.
The PNP-HPG said it will further intensify community-based information drives and coordination with local stakeholders under its ongoing anti-loose firearm campaign.
