Army Steps Up Quake Relief Operations in Remote Sarangani, Davao Occidental

The Philippine Army has intensified humanitarian operations in earthquake-affected areas of Sarangani and Davao Occidental, deploying disaster response units to deliver relief goods, restore access to potable water, and assist in rescue and recovery efforts in isolated communities.

Through its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) units, the Army supported residents in landslide-hit and hard-to-reach areas following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck parts of Mindanao.

In Sarangani, around 600 families in Sitio Linao, Barangay Tinoto in Maasim received approximately 190 gallons of potable water supplied through the Army’s Mobile Water Purification Station. Troops also helped distribute relief goods donated by civilian volunteers to displaced families in Barangay Butulan, Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental.

Working alongside the Philippine Air Force, Army personnel conducted sustained airlift operations from June 11 to 15, ferrying food packs, rice, bottled water, and other essential supplies to affected barangays including Molmol, Quiapo, San Isidro, and Sitio Makina in Kalbay, as well as Barangay E. Alegado in Glan, Sarangani.

A total of 4,925 food packs, 800 rice packs, 3,400 bottles of water, 400 boxes of relief goods, and additional potable water supplies were delivered through these coordinated operations, ensuring continuous support to communities cut off by damaged road networks.

The Army also facilitated the transport of about 400 boxes of relief goods from General Santos City to affected areas, assisted in logistics at distribution points, and supported the turnover of assistance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) at the General Santos City International Airport.

Military officials said HADR teams remain deployed on the ground in coordination with national agencies and local governments, as relief and recovery operations continue in quake-hit communities across southern Mindanao.
