The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has launched a new educational subsidy aimed at supporting children of active members who are pursuing college degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Called the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program (GSSP), the initiative aligns with the government’s push to expand access to quality education and strengthen the country’s future workforce through investments in skills development and innovation.
The program is open to children of GSIS active members who are permanent employees with Salary Grade 15 and below and have updated premium payments for the last three months. Eligible applicants must be incoming first-year college students, have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of at least 90 percent in senior high school, and be enrolled in recognized STEM-related degree programs.
Qualified beneficiaries will receive P15,000 per academic year to help defray educational expenses.
GSIS said it has allocated 1,000 slots nationwide, with 20 percent reserved for priority sectors, including Indigenous Peoples, solo parent households, persons with disabilities, and other qualified groups.
To facilitate implementation, GSIS will conduct nationwide orientation sessions for assigned coordinators, covering program guidelines, requirements, application procedures, and selection processes.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader emphasis on education as a long-term investment in national development, with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. repeatedly underscoring the need to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities.
GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said the program is designed to help families of government workers support their children’s academic ambitions in high-demand fields.
“Like the President, GSIS believes that education is one of the most important investments for the future of our country,” Veloso said. “Through the GSIS Subsidy for STEM Program, we want to help our members’ children achieve their dreams and become the next generation of scientists, engineers, technologists, and innovators who will contribute to the development of the Philippines.”
GSIS said the program is part of its continuing efforts to expand educational support and encourage more Filipino students to pursue careers in fields that drive innovation and long-term economic growth.
