The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that more than P85.6 million worth of food and non-food relief assistance has been distributed to communities affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck on June 8, as humanitarian response operations continue across multiple regions.

Widespread impact across Mindanao

Based on DSWD Disaster Response Operations Monitoring, Information, and Communication (DROMIC) data, the quake has affected 139,583 families or 561,040 individuals across 402 barangays in Regions IX (Zamboanga Peninsula), XI (Davao), XII (SOCCSKSARGEN), and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Of the total affected population, 15,749 families (64,233 individuals) have been displaced.

Evacuation and temporary shelter

Authorities reported that:

  • 2,269 families (9,959 individuals) are currently staying in 28 evacuation centers across Regions XI and XII
  • 13,480 families (54,274 individuals) are temporarily staying with relatives or friends

Housing damage under assessment

The DSWD also said that 45,697 houses have been reported damaged, with validation and further assessment ongoing in coordination with local government units and response agencies.

Ongoing response

Relief operations continue as government agencies scale up assistance for affected families, particularly in hard-hit provinces in Mindanao. The figures remain subject to further validation as field reports are consolidated.
