The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the public that security measures are in place nationwide for the 128th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on Friday, June 12.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization has not monitored any validated threat related to the Independence Day observance, but security forces will remain on alert to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of commemorative activities across the country.
“This is an annual activity that we prepare for every year. We trust our commanders and personnel for real-time security adjustments based on threat assessments, intelligence gathering, and the situation on the ground,” Nartatez said.
The PNP said police regional offices have activated their respective security plans in coordination with local government units, event organizers, and partner agencies.
Security coverage will be provided for flag-raising ceremonies, wreath-laying rites, parades, cultural presentations, and other Independence Day activities under this year’s theme, “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.”
Nartatez said standby forces will also be available for immediate deployment if needed.
In Metro Manila, around 12,000 police personnel and force multipliers have been deployed to secure major event sites, including Rizal Park, the Parada ng Kalayaan route, Bonifacio Monument, Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine, the Malacañang area, and the vicinity of the United States Embassy.
Security measures have also been put in place around the Senate and the House of Representatives in coordination with their respective officials and security units, amid possible protest actions related to the current political situation.
Nartatez said communication lines between the PNP, the Senate, and other government agencies remain open for coordination during the June 12 activities.
“We are ready. We are continuously monitoring the situation, and we assure the Filipino people of the PNP’s presence and readiness as the country celebrates its Independence Day,” Nartatez said.
