Police To Strictly Comply With Bonoan Hospital Arrest Order

The Philippine National Police on Friday said it will strictly comply with the Sandiganbayan resolution placing former Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan under hospital arrest while he faces plunder and graft charges.

The anti-graft court granted Bonoan’s motion for hospital arrest and allowed his confinement at the PNP General Hospital in Camp Crame.

Bonoan surrendered to the PNP last Monday but was later brought to the PNP General Hospital after experiencing elevated blood pressure.

He was taken to the Sandiganbayan the following morning, but was later transferred to The Medical City in Pasig City after laboratory results showed an elevated heart enzyme, raising concern over a possible heart condition.

PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Bonoan remains under medical care in the private hospital, where he has undergone diagnostic procedures as part of his continuing medical management.

Nartatez said Bonoan will be transferred to the PNP General Hospital once cleared by his attending physician.

He said the PNP General Hospital is capable of providing specialized medical monitoring and custodial care.

“The PNP is strictly implementing the court’s directive and has put in place the necessary security and custodial measures to ensure compliance with the conditions imposed by the court,” Nartatez said.

He added that all matters relating to Bonoan’s confinement and transfer will remain subject to the orders and authority of the Sandiganbayan.

“The PNP remains committed to the faithful enforcement of lawful court orders while ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of persons under its custody,” Nartatez said.
