An obstruction of justice case was filed before the Department of Justice by the three relatives of the missing cockfighting enthusiasts, or sabungeros, against Atty. Caroline Cruz, the lawyer of Atong Ang, several police officers, and other individuals.
The relatives alleged that they were offered money to skip hearings related to the missing sabungeros case.
They also claimed that some relatives of the missing sabungeros were allegedly receiving monthly payments amounting to P40,000 from Ang’s camp.
In their complaint, the DOJ was asked by the complainants to conduct a preliminary probe and summon Cruz to answer the allegations.
Cruz previously acknowledged providing P20,000 in financial aid to some relatives of the missing sabungeros, but maintained that the assistance was not tied to any condition.
