Death Toll in Angeles Condotel Collapse Climbs to 10

Authorities recovered four more bodies from the rubble of a collapsed condotel in Angeles City, Pampanga on Sunday, raising the death toll to 10.

The Bureau of Fire Protection Central Luzon, which is leading the search, rescue and retrieval operations, said the first body was retrieved at around 7:42 a.m. from the collapsed structure in Barangay Balibago.

Two more cadavers were recovered at 2:51 p.m. and 3:43 p.m., while the fourth body was retrieved at 4:27 p.m., the BFP Central Luzon said on its Facebook page.

“Responders continue to make progress at the collapse site, with the 10th casualty successfully extricated from the affected structure in Brgy. Balibago, Angeles City,” it said.

“Search, rescue, and retrieval operations remain ongoing as personnel continue to work through the affected area,” it added.

The latest recoveries brought down to 11 the number of people still believed trapped in the nine-story structure, which collapsed on May 24.

The BFP Central Luzon said operations remained active as of Sunday.

“Our rescuers are deploying advanced life-detection radar and highly sensitive microphones to find survivors trapped under the rubble,” it said.
