DepEd to Hire 22,268 School Support Staff

The Department of Education (DepEd) will hire more than 22,000 non-teaching personnel in public schools nationwide to reduce the administrative workload of teachers and help them focus more on classroom instruction.

Education Secretary Sonny Angara welcomed the approval of 22,268 new non-teaching positions for Fiscal Year 2026, following the Department of Budget and Management’s (DBM) clearance for the creation of the posts.

Angara said the additional personnel would strengthen school operations and support the administration’s effort to improve the quality of basic education.

“Nagpapasalamat kami kay Pangulong Marcos at sa DBM dahil malaking tulong ito upang maibsan ang mga gawaing administratibo ng ating mga guro,” Angara said.

“Sa pamamagitan ng mga bagong posisyong ito, mas makatututok na ang ating mga titser sa pagtuturo at sa pagpapataas ng kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa,” he added.

The approved positions include 6,000 School Principal I posts, 11,268 Administrative Officer II posts, and 5,000 Project Development Officer I posts for elementary and secondary schools.

The new items will be distributed across the regions, with DBM regional offices tasked to directly issue the corresponding Notices of Organization, Staffing, and Compensation Actions to speed up hiring and deployment.

DepEd said the additional support staff are expected to help streamline school operations, particularly in administrative and program-related work that has long added to teachers’ duties outside the classroom.

The approval follows another DBM action creating 32,916 new teaching positions to help address personnel shortages in public schools.

Funding for the new non-teaching posts will be charged against DepEd’s built-in appropriations under the FY 2026 General Appropriations Act.
