The death toll from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Sarangani on June 8 has risen to 65, according to the latest situation report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) as of 8 am Monday.
Of the fatalities, 57 were recorded in Soccsksargen while eight were reported in the Davao Region. Authorities also confirmed that 36 individuals remain missing, including 19 from Davao and 17 from Soccsksargen, as search, rescue, and retrieval operations continue in affected areas.
The number of injured has climbed to 1,447, with the majority or 1,367 coming from Soccsksargen, while 79 were reported in the Davao Region.
The NDRRMC said the disaster has affected 176,186 families, or around 736,386 individuals, across 512 barangays in Soccsksargen, the Davao Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
Of those affected, 3,180 families or 14,161 individuals are currently taking shelter in 37 evacuation centers as local governments continue relief operations and restoration efforts in quake-hit communities.
