40 Filipino Crew Safe After Strait Of Hormuz Attacks

Malacañang on Monday said all 40 Filipino crew members aboard two commercial vessels attacked near the Strait of Hormuz last week are safe.

Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, citing a report from Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, said the 21 Filipino crew members of the cargo vessel MV Ever Lovely and the 19 Filipino crew members of the oil tanker MT Kiku are safe.

Castro said both vessels remain seaworthy and are able to continue their voyage.

The Singapore-flagged MV Ever Lovely is expected to arrive in Singapore on July 5, she said.

Malacañang assured the public that the government continues to closely monitor the condition of the vessel and its crew.

Castro also said the DMW had confirmed that 2,100 Filipino seafarers aboard 85 vessels have already exited the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, 3,800 Filipino seafarers remain aboard ships currently operating in the Persian Gulf.

The MV Ever Lovely and MT Kiku were reportedly hit during an Iranian one-way attack drone on June 25 and June 27, respectively, while passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
