Tolls Resume on NLEX as Flood-Hit San Simon Lanes Fully Reopen

NLEX Corp. has lifted the toll-free passage along the San Fernando–Pulilan segment of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) after floodwaters receded and all affected lanes were fully reopened to traffic.

The expressway operator announced that the temporary toll rebate, first implemented under a directive from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) during heavy flooding, officially ended at 12:01 a.m. on September 9. Normal toll collections have resumed following the full reopening of all three lanes in both directions of the San Simon Interchange and Tulaoc sections to all vehicle classes.

The flood-impacted lanes were restored to full capacity at 8:50 a.m. on September 8, allowing standard traffic flow to resume along the critical northern arterial route.

While the general toll rebate for motorists has concluded, NLEX Corp. clarified that the temporary toll exemption for provincial buses remains in effect to support public transportation lines.

The clearing of the expressway follows extensive, continuous flood mitigation and clearing operations executed alongside government agencies and private sector partners.

To prevent similar disruptions during future heavy downpours, NLEX Corp. confirmed that long-term engineering interventions remain underway in the affected areas. These works include the comprehensive dredging of the Tulaoc River as well as clearing and structural improvement activities along the NLEX embankment to enhance water drainage and reduce flood risks in surrounding communities.

The tollway operator reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with state agencies and private partners to ensure the continuous safety, operational reliability and flood resilience of the expressway network.
