Police arrested three men in Tuguegarao City after authorities seized firearms, suspected shabu, and equipment allegedly used in crude oil theft during an operation in Barangay Libag Norte on June 5, 2026.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the operation was launched after CCTV surveillance from the Tuguegarao Command Center monitored a white Hi-Ace commuter van allegedly linked to a series of crude oil theft incidents in the city.
Authorities tracked the vehicle along Maharlika Highway, where one of its occupants was allegedly seen entering the perimeter of a facility. Police immediately responded and deployed SWAT personnel, leading to the arrest of three male suspects from Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Recovered during the operation were two improvised caliber .22 rifles, 12 rounds of ammunition, two mobile phones, 11 empty gallons, two hoses believed to have been used to siphon crude oil, and a vehicle license plate.
Police also seized five heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu. The items were secured for forensic examination.
The recovered evidence was inventoried at the scene in the presence of the suspects, a barangay official, and a representative from the Department of Justice, in line with standard procedures.
The suspects were brought to PCP Downtown for documentation and further investigation.
The PNP said the operation forms part of its intensified campaign against theft, illegal drugs, and other criminal activities affecting public safety and critical resources.
The suspects are expected to face complaints for attempted theft, violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and violation of Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Police said further investigation is ongoing to determine whether the suspects have accomplices or links to other similar incidents.
PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police organization will continue sustained operations against criminal groups.
“Hindi namin papayagan na samantalahin ng mga kriminal ang sitwasyon ng ating lipunan,” Nartatez said.
“The PNP will continue sustained operations to protect critical resources and maintain public safety,” he added.
