A suspected serial robber was killed while his alleged accomplice was wounded following a shootout with police officers in Makati City, the Southern Police District (SPD) reported.
The encounter happened on the night of July 13 in Barangay Bangkal after the two suspects allegedly robbed a woman.
Police personnel conducting an intelligence-driven operation in the area responded after hearing the victim’s cries for help and immediately pursued the fleeing suspects.
According to the SPD, the suspects fired at the pursuing officers along Dallas Street, prompting the police to return fire.
The motorcycle rider was hit in the back, while the back rider sustained a gunshot wound to his side. Their motorcycle later crashed, ending the chase.
Both suspects were brought to a hospital for medical attention. The motorcycle rider was declared dead on arrival, while the other suspect survived and remains under treatment.
Authorities recovered the victim’s jewelry and cash, two firearms, a live fragmentation grenade, and spent shell casings from the area.
Investigators said the suspects were allegedly linked to a series of robberies in Makati and nearby cities in recent weeks, including armed robbery incidents in Las Piñas and Makati, based on CCTV footage and other pieces of evidence.
The surviving suspect is expected to face charges for robbery and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the suspects were connected to a larger criminal group.
