Incoming Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said he will prioritize improving the commuting experience, strengthening road safety, and addressing problems at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as he prepares to take over the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Dizon said in a press briefing that he would continue the initiatives he started with outgoing Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, while carrying out President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to resolve longstanding issues at the agency.
“My top priority is the LTO; we are going to fix it. The President has instructed us to resolve these issues once and for all,” Dizon said.
“First and foremost, I have the full trust of the President. We are set to disrupt the flawed and corrupt system—and that is exactly what we have done, in accordance with the government’s directive,” Dizon also said.
Dizon previously served as transportation secretary from February to August 2025 before returning to the DOTr following Lopez’s appointment as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Dizon said he is very confident that Lopez will continue implementing reforms at the DPWH, adding that those who expect Lopez to be more lenient will be in for a surprise.
“If they’re thinking that Secretary Banoy is going to be easier or more lenient than me, I think everyone is in for a big, big surprise, because I think the opposite is true,” Dizon said.
Lopez, meanwhile, said he has no personal or professional ties with anyone at the DPWH, which he believes will allow him to make decisions objectively.
“Wala akong utang na loob to anyone in the DPWH, and it is easier for me to make a decision if something is wrong,” Lopez said.
