The Quezon City Government is providing assistance to 976 families temporarily staying in evacuation centers after a fire struck a residential area along NIA Road in Barangay Pinyahan.
City officials said the fire broke out Friday night, March 6, forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate to nearby facilities.
Evacuation centers were set up at several locations including Flora Ylagan High School, Pinyahan Covered Court, San Isidro Labrador Parish, NIA Covered Court, NIA Building, Pinyahan Elementary School, the NAPOCOR Office, and the NHA Balik Probinsya Covered Court at Manila Seedling.
The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office deployed mobile shower units to help evacuees maintain sanitation while staying in temporary shelters.
Medical teams were also assigned to evacuation sites to assist injured residents and monitor the health of displaced families.
The Quezon City Veterinary Department also established a temporary holding area for pets belonging to affected residents.
Meanwhile, the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works continues waste collection in evacuation centers to ensure cleanliness and proper waste management.
The city government said it is accepting donations including new clothes, baby diapers, food packs, hygiene kits, and pet food for dogs and cats.
Donations may be turned over to teams from the Social Services Development Department stationed at evacuation sites.
Local authorities also conducted field monitoring and an initial damage assessment in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office NCR through its Disaster Response Management Division.
